How to choose a gift they will actually use

An unexpected gift can be great. An unexpected chore usually is not. Before buying a clever object, work through these questions.

What do they already enjoy?

Look for an existing habit: making tea, writing notes, tending plants or welcoming friends. A gift that improves a familiar ritual has a clearer purpose than equipment for a hobby they have never mentioned.

Where will it live?

Consider counter space, desk size, sunlight and storage. A beautiful object that needs a sunny window is a poor match for a shaded apartment.

What else does it need?

Check batteries, replacement parts, compatible pens, subscriptions and accessories. For electronics, match the exact connector and model. Include essentials when practical so the gift can be used immediately.

Would they enjoy the upkeep?

Cleaning, charging and refilling are part of owning a product. Reusable tools can be a good fit for someone who enjoys that routine; a simpler alternative may suit someone who does not.

Can it arrive and be returned?

Confirm delivery timing and the seller’s return policy before ordering. Read the actual model details and dimensions, especially when a product family includes several versions.
